Dr. Paxman,
I am writing to you on behalf of my son Ethan(age 6) who has ADHD(type 3). We have been "battling" our Insurence Co. requesting approval for the Brand Ritalin instead of generic. For the past 3mo. or so my son complains daily of "tummy" aches that do not go away(Ethan suffers from them all day long the only diff. is the severity of the pain). We(Dr. Camacho) has had his blood & stools tested to rule-out any viral infection or whatever else that causes these "cronic" tummy aches,(all of the test results came back neg), so I starting started logging his complaints and reviewed his daily log we keep with his teachers and found that Ethan's tummy aches started shotly after increasing his A.M. dose from 5mgs. to 10mgs. I truly believe that my sons problems are due to the "Binders" used in the different Generic Ritalin used, I also believe/feel it is not nessesary to or that we should change his Meds because the "active" ingredient in Ritalin works! it's just the Binders that are being used are the problem (we also have to give him is A.M dose 45mins. before he eats for it to be effective which is stated on the label). I apologise for not getting to the point & being so "wordy" but... my little boy needs HELP! Would you be able to help me find "litature" supporting that Brand is better than Generic? I have until July 26th to submit any documentation supporting my beliefs/feelings to be reviewed by our Insurence Co.
*Please contact me at any of the phone #'s or address' listed below.
Thank you,
Teresa Witten
