Struggling to raise Teen with AD/HD

Posted by pogley

I'm currently struggling to raise my now, 15 yr old son who was diagnosed
with ADHD about 2 yrs ago.
Needless to say it had been a real struggle. He refuses to take the
medication that was prescribed by his doctor and is failing miserably at
school. He is now in grade 10. My fear is he will quit as soon as he is
legally able to. I am also struggling with his behavior at home as well.
He is verbally abusive with his family and can be very defiant as well. He
bullies his younger siblings also.
We are currently in family therapy which at least gives us a neutral person
to help us vent our issues.
I love my son and I want to help him but I am at a loss to reach this child
and I am terrified that I may have ask him to leave my home in the future.
I don't want to do this however I cant imagine letting him run my home and
do as he pleases.
I am tired of hearing that it is the parents fault in these ADHD children, I
have too other children which are well adjusted individuals and very well
behaved.
I would like to hear from any one who has any advice or from anyone who may
be experiencing the same thing.
